introduction
Harvey Milk was a local San Franciscan politician who fought for the rights of gays as well as other minorities. He lived in San Francisco and wanted himself and other gays to be represented in the San Franciscan local government, so he ran for a spot on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and stayed on it until he was assassinated by another Board member. However, his place on the Board took several tries to achieve. He finally won the election on his third attempt the year George Moscone was appointed mayor. While on the Board of Supervisors, he pushed for the rights of minorities and social and public issues. Harvey Milk clearly deserves the Achievements in Rights Award due to his fight for the rights of gays, workers, and the elderly.
